Welcome

On behalf of the organising committee we look forward to welcoming you all to the 2009 Bromley Model United Nations at Bromley Civic Centre on 4 December. The committee of students from Newstead and St Olave's has prepared the resolutions to be discussed in December.

The event will be open to sixth formers from all Bromley Schools. There are limitations to the number of people we can accommodate and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The Debates

The day will start with a General Assembly debate. You will then be split up into committees to consider resolutions that will be brought back to the General Assembly for final discussion and a vote. It is important that a member of every delegation attends each committee or the Security Council.

If you are representing a country on the UN Security Council your debate will take place at this stage. The Security Council has the authority to vote on its resolution without needing approval from the General Assembly. Be aware that the permanent members of the Security Council will have the power of veto.

The day will end with an Emergency Resolution that will test your ability to think and debate on your feet!

We hope that the experience will be both valuable and enjoyable, giving some insight into the procedures of the United Nations as well as offering an opportunity to take part in a prestigious inter-school event. Hopefully you will all come away with a much greater insight into international affairs.
