Procedures

1. The main aim of the day is to day is to debate, alter and eventually pass UN resolutions either through the General Assembly or the Security Council.

2. There will be an opening General Assembly debate before breaking out into the various Committees.

3. If you are not a country in the Security Council it is up to you which Committee you sit on. Ideally each country should have one delegate per Committee. It is best to have a good understanding of your country’s opinion on the topic you will be debating in Committee as you will want to modify the resolution in line with the policies of your country. We encourage you to do as much research as possible to maximise the quality of the debates.

4. The Committees debate and modify resolutions in detail before they are passed to the General Assembly for a final debate and vote. The debate in each Committee is run by its President.

5. The day will end with an Emergency Resolution in the General Assembly. This resolution will not be available until then and will test your powers to think on your feet and still remain in the character of your country! You will be given some time for lobbying.
